Morning's Coming

Morning’s Coming
Morning’s coming, I guess it’s time to go
But I look out of the window, all I see is rain and snow
And every time I call you, nobody picks up the call
Maybe tomorrow, maybe no time at all
Could be you’re sleeping, maybe you’re away
I guess I have to wait another day
For you to call me…
Morning’s coming, the birds are already doing their thing
Sun comes up and all they want to do is sing
Once I was a traveller, my refuge was the road
Now I just want to stay in here safe from the cold
Maybe there’s something, you needed to say
I guess I have to wait another day
For you to call me…
Morning’s coming, the windows are wide
Rain on the glass like a rising tide
I miss you like the shadows that hide from the light
I guess I have to wait another night
For you to call me…
Morning’s coming, the city is starting to wake
Engines humming, daylight starting to break
I’m thankful for the morning, grateful for the stars
I know that I’m lucky I made it this far
But still you’re an ocean of distance away
I guess I have to wait another day
Baby call me…
Morning’s coming, I guess it’s time to go
Morning’s coming, I guess it’s time to go
Morning’s coming, I guess it’s time to go
Now

Australia

Australia
There’s a ship in the harbour, Bound for Australia
They say it’s the end of the earth
And we’re waiting to board her, Though we’re none of us sailors
We are cargo for all we are worth
I am William John Taylor, manual labourer
And pride is the mark of this man
But when poverty found me, I stole from my neighbour
Now I’m bound for the demon’s land
In the city assizes, My fate was decided
And the judgement was handed down clear
And the families they cried, And our freedom denied
Transportation for many a year
So it’s down to the holding, As the day is unfolding
In the darkness there to stand
Where the ship Henry Porter, A dark mass in the water
Stood ready for Van Diemen’s land
The waves, oh the waves
Wave farewell to all the good things
The waves, oh the waves
Who can tell what tomorrow could bring
As the skies they grew dark And the call of the lark
Like the siren song faded away
Shivering deep in the hold, Battling the cold
With no measure of night from day
There were thousands like me, In the jaws of the sea
As the seasons around us decay
And for every ten who saw daylight again
Two had perished along the way
The waves, oh the waves
Wave farewell to all the good things
The waves, oh the waves
Who can tell what tomorrow could bring
So for twenty long years I must languish out here
Two decades removed from my span
And all I desire when my exile expires
To return from the demon’s land
To the heart of my home, To no longer be known
As a man with no standing or worth
Just a life of hard labour, down in Australia
The land at the end of the earth
The waves, oh the waves
Wave farewell to all the good things
The waves, oh the waves
Who can tell what tomorrow could bring
The waves, oh the waves
Wave farewell to all the good things
The waves, oh the waves
Who can tell what tomorrow could bring

Another Life

Another Life
He said he loved me in another life
Before the mountains were carved by ice
When stars were young And the sun was bright
The very morning of our love
And then he loved me in another age
Another story for another page
Before the cities rose above the plains
Another dawning of our love
Another life in another life
All the times I loved you then
Another life in another life
In time I will love you again
Now we see the world on another night
At every turn a million points of light
But still he guides me like his satellite
In the slow revolving of our love
And I will find him in another life
Beyond the veils of stars and night
I will return to him an acolyte
In the ageless evolving of our love
He said he loved me in another life
Before the mountains were carved by ice
When stars were young and the sun was bright
The very morning of our love
And I will find him in another life
Beyond the veils of stars and night
I will return to him an acolyte
In the ageless evolving of our love

Le Verre a Pied
03:50

Le Verre a Pied
Stroll through the Latin quarter
To le Verre a Pied
Moonlight reflecting on water
Sounds of Montmartre in your head
The sweet tang of Gauloises In the doorway
Songs from the shows at the bar
Teenagers flirting and laughing
En route to the Arthouse cinema
Ah, le verre a Pied
All human life is there
Ah, le verre a Pied
Still waters run deep in here
Old sepia photographs in the hallway
From half a century past
Up to the arches of the Sorbonne
From the oak trees On Boulevard St Jacques
Rose stemmed glasses reflecting
In mirrors occluded with age
Newspapers stacked high On old oak tables
Locals asleep in the shade
Ah, le verre a Pied
All human life is there
Ah, le verre a Pied
Still waters run deep in here

London Town

London Town
Well I came to the city
In search of my fortune
It was nowhere to be found
Now I’m brushing the dirt
From the cracks in the pavements
In the jewellery quarter in town
Because somebody told me
There’s gold in the sweepings,
Broken medallion chains
Gonna melt it all down
And make me a sovereign
To put alongside my name
But it gets hard, sometimes,
To know if you’re up or you’re down
And it rains, lord it rains so you could drown
You know I would trade all I own
To take myself home
Where the sun can see the ground
And leave these lonely streets Of London town
Darling come home, we miss you
And this place is not the same
And the birds outside the window
Sing your name
If these times are hard to live through,
Just know that I forgive you
I can’t leave you cold and lonely in the rain
When I walk by the river
I’m searching for treasure
Just a mudlark raking the sand
With the hawkers and traders,
Robbers and raiders
All living hand to hand
And the city grows taller,
Its buildings and walls are
Like claws reaching up to the clouds
And they stand in the way
Of the plans that I made
To make my sweetheart proud
But it gets hard, sometimes,
To turn things around and to change
Did I tell you how it rains, Lord it rains...
You know I would trade all I own
To take myself home
Where the sun can see the ground
And leave these lonely streets Of London town
Darling come home, we miss you
And this place is not the same
And the birds outside the window
Sing your name
If these times are hard to live through,
Just know that I forgive you
I can’t leave you cold and lonely in the rain

In Your Company

In Your Company
Oh these times are testing me
The world outside my door
Where now is the empathy
As the rich regard the poor
Oh these times are worrying
To see what we’ve become
To see the dark clouds scurrying
To cover up the sun
And I only know the way When you guide me by the hand
And I walk along the golden sand
In your company, in your fine company
In your company, in your fine, fine company
Oh these times are changing me
I’m not the man I was
All around is strange to me
No wisdom, no remorse
My fellow man is suffering
I feel I’ve let him down
And the music is not comforting
When we’re drowning in the sound
And I only see the road, When you guide me through the night
And I walk beneath the early morning light
In your company, in your fine company
In your company, In your fine, fine company

A Place Of Our Own
04:11
|
|||
A Place Of Our Own
A place of our own
Under the same sky
Under the same bright sky
A time of our own
A time to reflect unto
A time to reflect and to decide
Why do we start taking sides
When the sides we take divide
Then we’re denied
At the gates to a world of our own
And everyone’s here
Everyone here is the same
But everyone here is not the same
We came from the dark
Out of the same dark
Out of the same dark night...
Can we take time to decide
Under the same bright skies
You and I
Here in a place of our own
Always remember there’s magic in the world
Always remember there’s majesty in this world
If we are all we can be..

Old Ways

|

Old Ways
We came here by the old ways
Those ancient ways That are no longer known
With no maps to plot our progress
Still remembered in our bones
Pathways marked by stones and symbols
Or sometimes covered by the tide
Woods and windmills
Masked by time’s disguise
Oh the old ways bring us home
Oh the old ways bring us home
With a welcome and a song
Oh the old ways bring us home
We travelled by the back roads,
Followed Hedgerows and drovers’ lanes
Striding high above the weather,
Or slouching down below the rain
Byways worn by those before us,
Are sometimes lost or left behind
But songs and stories Keep them in our minds
Oh the old ways bring us home
Oh the old ways bring us home
With a welcome and a song
Oh the old ways bring us home
We came here by the old ways
Channels made out of brooms and stone
While Mists and tides pursue us
Faster than a man can run
But If he’s skilful of the causeway
Only then, only then a man can ride
From the maypole to the island
With markers for a guide

Now
04:10
|
|||
Now
If I could find a way to reach you
If we could find a way to meet
I would gather up the mountains
And place them down at your feet
I would harness the oceans
Wear the stars upon my sleeve
It’s a fanciful notion
But it’s all I believe
Now….
If I could straighten out the corners,
And cast a light amongst the dark
Put all that beauty there before us,
Banish darkness to the past
But I’m just a man that stands before you,
If we could find a way to heal
I would do all of these things for you,
Because it’s all I believe
Now
The light of the morning The harbour of night
The warm rain pouring Bathing in light
The silence of snowfall The vastness above
The depth of my love
Now...
The waters so warm As they land on the shore
Can carry me home From here to before
And I offer my trust I will do what I must
For the warmth of your touch
And the light of the morning The harbour of night
The warm rain pouring Bathing in light
The silence of snowfall The vastness above
Unknowable, hopeful The depth of my love
Now...

New Lights

|

New Lights
There are lights out on the ocean
There are lights here on the land
There are lights in your window
There's a light to guide your hand
Don't turn out the light
There are roads across the mountains
There are roads through the trees
There are those who light the way before us
Take my hand and follow me
Don't turn out the light
We need time to learn from you
In dark times we turn to you
And these lights they burn for you...
Don't turn out the light
So turn away from fake philosophers and prophets
Who will lead you to their path of best reward
They exist only to line their own pockets
With the currency of cruelty and war
Don't turn out the light
You will run right into danger and division
You will stumble over rocks placed in your way
They will laugh at you in anger and derision
So don't listen
go strongly on your way
